In reply to <a href="https://ilyavp.com/improve-reflexes-for-gaming-csgo/#comments/4">max</a>.

I 100% agree! In many cases the experienced veteran (with lower reaction time) has the hand up on the inexperienced, but quick, player. However, if they're both trainable (or you can at least limit the deterioration of reaction time w/age) I don't see any reason for why training for both shouldn't work.

Raw reaction time can't be significantly improved. The problem with obsession over reaction time is you miss out on the intellectual part of the game. There's an entire art dedicated to compensating for one's own slowness in reaction. There's this thing your brain does well, called theory of mind and prediction, which has no skill ceiling and you can keep learning more things forever.

One example that triggers me harder than anything is that when people hold corners they tend to aim right at the corner even when they KNOW the other person is going to run out. Inevitably, the person pops out super fast and they jerk their mouse over to try to re-aim. I'm like, wow, you'd think after 100 times they would've learned to keep their mouse FURTHER FROM THE CORNER??? You should NEVER be aiming directly next to the corner for a running peeker unless you literally have a God-like reaction time of 0.01 seconds. See, if you keep focusing on reaction time you miss what the game is really about, which is predicting your opponent and preventing yourself from being predicted.

I realize that this is a post made in 2014, but I would still like to comment.

I feel that adjusting desktop cursor and in-game look sensitivity to relatively have the same feel helps translate that practice into actual gameplay performance.

Hi Ilya,
I wonder what platform you used to hire your VA? I remember it was not Upwork and that you posted once a link to it. Cannot find :(
I wanted to try it out as an alternative to Upwork.
